Obtain a Building Permit

Once you receive the Zoning Compliance Letter, you can begin applying for the building permit through the Community Connect software at the Building and Fire Safety Department.

Community Connect is the new online portal for Macon-Bibb County, specifically designed for processing building permits. This platform allows contractors to submit electronic permit applications and receive approved plans, which can be printed for jobsites. With a Contractor Account in Community Connect, you can easily submit plans for review, receive permits, schedule inspections, and check the status of your projects. Inspection comments are sent via email and made available online immediately after inspections.

To maintain the integrity of the permitting process, only license holders can set up Contractor Accounts. License holders can delegate responsibilities to their staff, allowing them to manage the account and apply for permits. Team members can also create Community Member Accounts, enabling them to submit applications and perform minor tasks, but they will not have the authority to issue permits. This structure is in place to protect your contractor’s license and prevent potential misuse.
